California Wins Underclass All-American

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Team California defended its home turf in San Diego at the Perfect Game Underclass All-American Games, taking home a championship with a 2-0 win over Team Central in the title game on Tuesday.

The California roster was loaded for the event, with eight top-100 prospects across the 2024 and 2025 classes represented on the squad. Those eight included the No. 1 overall prospects in both the 2024 and 2025 classes, Derek Curiel and Noah Franco, who hit in the two- and three-hole in the California lineup in the championship game, respectively.

Franco drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, lining a single to center field and scoring Elijah Clayton, who reached on an error to lead off the frame.

Ben Reiland, the No. 88 overall prospect in 2024 class, drove in the other run in the ballgame in the fifth inning, driving a ball into center field that scored Dean Moss, the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2025 class.

The California pitchers took care of everything else from there, combining for nine innings and allowing just two hits while punching out 11 Central hitters.

Andrew Johnson, a Southern California commit, got the start, tossing two hitless innings and striking out three. Boston Bateman, Levi Sterling, Joshua Garcia, and Vincent Hudson were all close to flawless from there on out, with Hudson closing things out in the ninth and earning the save.

The talent at the Underclass All-American Games was outstanding across each of the six rosters. There were 26 top-100 prospects across the 2024 and 2025 classes overall, with hundreds of top-500 prospects filling out lineups.
