14u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1
Right-hander Brayden Harris (2026, Orange Park, Fla.) is no stranger to Perfect Game events and his start Thursday morning proved to be business as usual for the young Florida State commit as he tossed three innings in which he struck out six, scattered a couple hits and walked two. Already known for possessing one of the better breaking balls in the class, this look allowed us to see how Harris would respond to not having a feel for arguably his best offering from the first pitch of the game as he seemingly couldn't find a consistent release point on his first couple of attempts. 

Rather than press the strongly built Harris simply went into attack mode with the fastball, sitting in the 82-85 mph range and did so with success as filled up the zone and managed to challenge, and win, battles within the strike zone. While he'll continue to refine his mechanics on the mound and make subtle changes over the next couple of years, the arm quickness currently allows Harris to remain on time which in turn, allows for a bevy of strikes. It didn't take Harris to rectify the situation with his breaker and once he found a consistent release point, the hammer came out of the toolbox and he went to it early and often. Not only does he throw the pitch with serious conviction, tight rotation and arm speed (up to 77 mph), he knows how to sequence it and set up hitters just as we saw in a front door curveball-fastball spotted at the knees glove side-curveball hurried in the zone sequence to pick up a punchout. It's a quality two pitch repertoire for Harris and one that's on display in all the major circuit stops and he has put up some big stats along the way.
