ZT Elite Bats Explode on Day 1 of 13u BCS

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Doubleheaders are never easy on a ball club, so it is a coach's dream when the bats get hot towards the backend of one.

“8:00 am games are a little tough, everybody’s a little sluggish,” ZT Elite Florida 13U coach Rob Zimmerman said. “This game was one of those where the bats got hot, started getting some timely hitting, got guys on and the results were what they are, it was good."



Following their 6-1 win over The City Baseball to open their 13u BCS National Championship run, Zimmerman and his club followed that up with a dominant 13-1 victory over NY Gothams.

Aiden Kearney got the start on the mound for ZT, as the right-hander’s mid-70s fastball proved too much, giving up no hits and striking out three over his three innings of work. Jacob Amador relieved Kearney in the top half of the fourth, also not allowing a hit in his inning on the mound.

After notching two runs over the first two innings, the ZT offense brought up three runs in the bottom of the third to expand their lead to 5-1.

The hat trick of runs began with Austin Butler, Jaxson Wells and Chase Crawford loading the bases with one out.

Evan Stramanak’s first of his four RBI on the day began with a single down the third base line to bring home Butler. The very next at-bat, Sedrick Branham Jr. followed it up with a single of his own to bring Wells and Crawford across.

The bulk of ZT’s runs came in the bottom of the fourth, when they brought home seven and batted through their order.

Alan Zimmerman’s two-run single to left with nobody out brought in Jacob Amador and Peyton Holton.

The rest of Stramanak’s team-leading RBI total came after he cleared the bases with a double to left field, and Gabriel Sabilona brought him in a few batters later to reach the run-rule limit.

With one day down of tournament play done and five to go, high scoring games like this are going to be key going forward for Zimmerman and his club.

“You cannot get to where you want to get to if you don’t have the arms left to get you there,” Zimmerman said postgame. “So big wins like this when it can be supported by strong offense is exactly what you need to conserve pitching and make the weekend a little easier.”
