North Atlanta Open Scout Notes

Photo: Jax Phillips (Perfect Game)

Jax Phillips (2024, Milton, Ga.) is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound, lanky and athletic third baseman and right-handed pitcher who played his high school ball this spring with East Cobb Baseball Academy. A member of the East Cobb Astros 16u in 2022, Phillips helped his club in all phases as he ended the weekend with a North Atlanta Open championship and MV-Pitcher honors. When all was said and done, Phillips turned in a three-day performance of a .333 average at the plate with a well-rounded two hits, walks, runs scored, and stolen bases, while he also drove in three runs of his own at the plate. In the box, Jax sets up with tall posture and an open stance. He deploys a hand load, and then turns it loose with a level to high bat path and twitch in the box that leads to plenty of barreled contact with carry to the gaps. An excellent athlete, Phillips has tools to impact the game in a number of ways, as he is a proven runner with underway speed and acumen on the bases and has feel for the leather and a strong arm to match at third base. His tools in the infield are no secret to our department, as he is ranked as the top third baseman in Georgia by our scouts and top-10 at the position in the class.
