Daren Carlson is a 2008 2B/SS with a 5'9'', 165 lb. frame from Norco CA, who attends Norco High School. Carlson has a strong, compact body type with good athleticism. He is a well rounded player and should get attention from D1 programs. He plays hard and possesses solid tools, both offensively and defensively. Though he is not physically built, he is strong and that is apparent when he swings the bat. Carlson has a quick bat and drives through contact. He keeps his body behind the ball and maximizes his present day power potential. His approach will continue to allow him to hit the ball with authority as he moves up to the college level. Carlson would be best described as a line drive contact hitter with occasional power. Defensively he played quite well, up the middle and at 3rd base. His hands and feet are good and he has a very nice release, making up for what is presently fairly average arm strength. He has feel for playing defense and he just may be able stay at shortstop in college if his arm gets a bit stronger. Carlson is also a good student.
