James Vargas is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 6-0 195 lb. frame from Hartland, WI who attends Arrowhead. Recorded a 6.99 second sixty yard dash time, showcasing good speed. Large frame, thick and sturdy build with present strength. Primary shortstop with smooth footwork and great feel for the glove, moves very well for his size. Whippy arm with present arm strength, has advanced defensive actions with natural instincts for the position. Secondary right-handed pitcher with a medium arm circle and definite arm speed, fastball has arm side run as well as cutting action when on the glove side. Curveball is extremely sharp at times with two-plane shape, has good feel for it. Tends to throw the curveball with a higher release point. Velocity started to drop after the first inning, is a power pitcher and projects well as a bullpen arm. Has two-way potential. Right-handed hitter with a tall and narrow stance and a low hand set. Utilizes a big stride forward into contact, tends to pull off with the front side at times. Aggressive swinger with a power approach, looks to do damage with each pitch. Has obvious strength and bat speed, produces loud contact when on time and squared. Absolutely crushed a homerun in game action. Will continue to improve as he develops his approach and the swing becomes more consistent. Good student. Named to the 2021 Midwest Top Prospect Games Top Prospect List.
