2006 Nor Cal Underclass Showcase
Zack Furtado is a 2008 MIF/3B with a 5'11'', 145 lb. frame from Fremont CA, who attends American HS. He has a lithe, wiry strong build on an average frame, with plenty of room to fill out. Furtado is still gaining strength and as he does get stronger, most of what he can do on the field will stand out more in the coming years. He may still be a couple of years away from being viewed as a D1 prospect, but he showed skill level at this showcase to suggest he will be on in time. Furtado has a quick bat and a flat swing plane. He swings aggressively and there is some life in his hands. He did a nice job of staying in the middle of the field. Furtado also ran the bases well, making good aggressive turns. Defensively he sparkled at times. He has good body control and a good arm that is still developing. His arm is quick and accurate. His hands work well and he plays with energy. Furtado really stood out making a backhand play up the 3B line as he gloved it, spun and threw basically all in one motion to get the hitter. Great play. He may be headed the JC route for some time to physically develop, but don't forget about him.
