Gavin Guidry is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 6-2 182 lb. frame from Lake Charles, LA who attends Alfred M. Barbe. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders, high waist, and a lean, projectable build with room to grow and develop moving forward. Fast-twitch muscle, posted a 6.36 60-yard dash and speed plays in game. Primary shortstop, shows active and aggressive footwork on the approach, smooth and soft glove skills out front, twitch translates into defensive actions, shows accuracy on throws and maintains balance on the run, lower slot on throws across the diamond. Also pitched, works from a higher slot on the mound, shows running life with sink when working down in the zone with fastball, topped out at 90 mph, will continue to refine overall command; curveball shows tight rotation with 12-6 shape and depth up to 78 mph. Right-handed hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Clean and fluid swing path through the zone, continually squared up pitching in live actions, inside the park home run off top of left field wall and double to left-center gap. Best contact when getting the hands out, quickness to swing and works the gaps with jump off of the barrel, works on plane well and turns the barrel well in swing. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Louisiana State.
