2016 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Matthew Coe is a 2017 C with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Valley Center, CA who attends Escondido Charter. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.78 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher with a slightly high set while receiving. Gains ground to the bag while working out of crouch to a taller throwing position. Clean glove to hand exchanges with a compact arm circle while working through transition. Compact arm action while releasing to the bag, created some on line carry to the bag topping at 71 mph. Best workout pop time of 2.15. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions producing occasional shift. Primarily used a mid-field approach while aggressively attacking contact out front. Hands launches on a compact path to contact creating a repeatable line drive swing plane through extension. Flashed good balance through finish that allowed for all fields contact as well. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Outstanding student as well.
