Sam Weatherly is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Howell, MI who attends Howell HS. Young and slender athletic build, really projects well physically. Drop and drive delivery mechanics, gets good drive from his lower half, high 3/4's arm slot with some backward lean, arm is fast and loose coming through, still working on delivery consistency, especially with his front side. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, more velocity there with physical maturity and mechanical adjustments, hides the ball well and he fastball gets on hitters. Shows good spin on his slider when he's on line and on time and has a feel for locating it. Change up was a nice pitch that should develop well. Potential two-way prospect, 6.94 runner with athletic actions in the outfield and an advanced ability to move through the ball and get rid of it quickly. Left handed hitter, closed narrow stance, has quick hands with a short line drive stroke, should improve with additional strength. Good student, verbal commitment to Clemson.
