Michael Asahara is a 2016 SS/IF with a 5-7 180 lb. frame from Spanaway, WA who attends Bethel HS. Medium frame with a strong, thick build. Right handed hitter with rotational mechanics. Shows a very compact line drive swing plane with a mid-field approach. Creates plus extension through contact and baseball explodes off barrel when squared. Flashes solid barrel skills with the ability to stay inside contact and drive the baseball to the opposite field gap. Hitting tools will play at next level with continued barrel consistency. Worked out defensively from the infield. Shows smooth fundamental actions through the baseball. Solid glove skills with good range to both sides. Gets ball out quickly from a short 3/4 slot that produces accurate throws, topped at 73 mph. Good student as well.
