Hugo Mendiola is a 2016 SS/OF/RHP with a 5-11 148 lb. frame from Laredo, TX who attends United HS. Has a large frame and long lean build with room to fill out as he puts on additional strength. Posted a 6.75 60-yard dash, moves well. At the plate, right-handed hitter that starts with a high hand set and high back elbow. Has an loose and easy swing with good barrel control and balance throughout. Middle to pull side approach, will see even more hard contact as he continues to get acceleration and extension through the baseball. Primary shortstop with long arm action and accurate throws to target bases. Short steps to the ball with athletic actions and good hands. From the mound, throws from an over the top arm slot with some downhill plane. Curveball has deception and works well down in the zone. Good student.
