Brett Morien is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from Santa Clarita, CA who attends Bishop Alemany HS. Morien has a lean athletic build with room to fill out and add strength. Primary pitcher up to 78 with fastball. High leg kick with back and hip turn at balance. Delivery is online, gets loaded up well but still learning to use legs to create a drive down mound. Arm is loose and whippy, has a little head snap at release. Commanded outer half of plate well. Mixed in curveball with 12/6 spin and showed developing depth. Maintained arm speed on a straight change. Hit from a square upright stance with a narrow base. Shows good bat speed with an aggressive mid field approach. Used a high leg lift as timing trigger, needs to make an adjustment to the lift to get foot down a bit sooner and on time. Defensively, solid footwork to ball, slows down to field with sure hands. Ball comes out clean with a long arm action and is accurate.
