LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 California Underclass
Robert Stock is a 2007 RHP/C from Agoura HS, residing in Westlake Village, CA, with a 6'1" 180 lb. frame. Stock was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase, was written up in the Top Prospect list, and was invited to the National Showcase. He has an average but well proportioned body and a well developed lower half, though it may not appear that way when you just glance at him. Stock does not stand out at all physically, but his tools speak loud and clear. On the mound he has plus arm speed, pitching from a high 3/4 slot. Stock is aggressive with the ball and routinely shows a 91-94 mph FB with riding action at plate and good life down in the zone. He was up to 95 mph in the fall of 2005. Stock also possesses a power downer CB that has plus spin and sharp, late action. That pitch has 11/5 shape and will be considered a slider by many who see him, but it is a CB. Stock throws it aggressively and in the right situations it is a plus pitch, though his command and feel will have to improve before it is a plus pitch against polished hitters. Amazingly for a young power pitcher, Stock has surprising feel his 79-81 mph CH, which suggests that more feel of his curveball is in his future. If that were to happen, then his power fastball will be that much more effective. Pitch after pitch Stock is has a predatory approach. On offense, Stock, a left handed hitter, has plus bat speed. He is an excellent gap to gap hitter with power from gap to gap. He has a quick trigger and gets to velocity easily. The ball exits his bat very well without him having to put a lot of effort into his swing. As he develops more upper body strength, his power potential will rise significantly, to the level of a middle of the order run producer. Stock is one of the very elite '07 prospects. He is a legitimate two-way talent, not only for major D1 baseball, but also for pro baseball. It is not yet determined whether he pitches or if it is his bat that will carry him long term.
