Austin Shackelford is a 2006 3B/C/IF from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, AZ, with a 5'9", 185 lb. frame. He is a strong and mature player with present strength that can take on some work load, behind the plate and at the hot corner. Shackelford shows sure hands and the ability to move well from side to side. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with a compact and aggressive swing with present strength to drive balls to both gaps. He is a middle of the line up type bat that makes good contact and should drive in some runs as well. Shackelford shows some options that a coach would like to have, a left handed hitting catcher that has enough mobility to play the infield as well. He is a good looking prospect with the bat and should be a big player at the next level. He is also a very good student.
