Matthew Castro is a 2006 2B/3B from Lancaster HS in Lancaster, California, with a 6'0", 165 lb. frame. Castro is a lean and athletic player that makes things happen on the field. He showed good speed running a 7.12-sixty on a very slow track, ran several 4.35 home to first times, and showed good quickness on the bases and in the field. Defensively Castro showed good footwork with very good hands and made all of the plays. He showed the ability to play multiple positions on the infield. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with solid bat speed and a line drive swing plane. He hits from an upright stance and has a good gather and weight transfer. Castro stays inside the ball well with good hands and wrists, and shows the ability to use the whole field. He has some pop in his bat, but gets most of his hits on line drives, and even beat out an infield single. Should be a very good college 2B.
