2004 National Open Top Prospect Showcase
Graham Couch is a 2005 switch hitting outfielder from Mansfield, Texas, with a very live, athletic body. He looks a bit bigger and stronger than his listed 6'0", 165 lb. size. Crouch ran the 60 in 6.93, and was 4.20 on a ground ball, and showed above average MLB speed underway while running out a triple. Couch showed excellent arm strength, 88 mph, from the outfield, and had excellent throwing mechanics and fielding fundamentals. From the left side of the plate, Crouch hits with a toe tap trigger and has some bat wrap that leaves him a bit long to the ball. He showed some raw power driving a ball off the left centerfield fence. Right handed, Crouch shows more bat speed with some loft in his swing and a smooth approach and trigger. With his very good running and defensive skills, improving his swing and getting a bit stronger are Couch’s primary areas to improve. Couch also took a turn on the mound and showed some of his athleticism. He was steady at 83-84 mph on his fastball from a high ¾ to overhand release point and threw a 72 mph curveball. He’s a better position prospect, one of the best at the showcase, but also does well on the mound. Graham is a very good student.
