2007 Rising Juniors National Showcase
John Altobelli is a 2009 SS with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Newport Beach, CA who attends Woodbridge HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Altobellit is talented and quite polished for a young player. He is built well for the middle of the diamond, with an average athletic build and athletic proportions. Altobelli is a well-rounded player and frankly does everything quite well. Maybe his best attribute is his feel and instincts for the game. It is easy to envision Altobelli contributing early in his college career, possibly starting as a freshman. He has a quick bat and a compact line drive swing. He showed the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. With his quiet middle of the field approach, Altobellit should hit for average at the college level and someday beyond. Defensively he showed soft hands and a quick release. Altobelli runs pretty well and has outstanding instincts and a good first step. His arm is solid though someday he likely will push to 2nd base. He is a coach's son and it shows in all the positive ways. Look for Altobelli to play major D1 ball and then someday move on to pro ball.
