LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Connor Hoehn is a 2007 right hand pitcher from St. John's College Prep, residing in Damascus, MD. Hoehn has a lean, athletic build with a plus lower half on his 6'1" 190 lb. frame. He still has some room to fill out but even if he doesn't gain a whole lot more, he passes the eye test as he is. Hoehn was one of the more fun pitchers to scout. He threw toward the end of the showcase when many of the BIG name arms had already thrown. However, he certainly drew his attention when the stands were getting a little restless. Ultimately Hoehn was ranked #48 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and he has a chance to blow by many of those ranked ahead of him. Hoehn has a long arm action and is pretty loose. He gets to plus extension on the front side and maintains good body control during his delivery. That delivery is very free and easy. Hoehn gathers well over the rubber and maintains good rhythm, staying consistently on time. His body control gives him a chance to command his hand at release, which he did well. Hoehn has a pretty hot fastball and he stayed down in the zone with it. He was up to 93 and pitched in the 87-92 range, with good angle through the zone and lively downward movement. It is the type of fastball that he can use and trust. With his arm action and arm speed, to imagine Hoehn in the 91-94 range in the near future is not difficult. As for his secondary stuff, he showed a lateral breaking, frisbee style slider that was 79 mph. His fastball moves well on the arm side and his slider can go the opposite direction, meaning that Hoehn can stay out of the middle pretty easily. That arm is very projectable and if he goes to college, expect Hoehn to be a high draft in 2010. He will draw some area scout attention this year and with a big spring may get a shot at pro ball earlier, rather than later.
