John Riden is a 2021 C/RHP/UT with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Lake Travis HS. Medium athletic build, some present strength with more to come. 7.25 runner, has quick twitch actions and athleticism behind the plate, has an idea how to block and receive the ball, quick release on his throws with good arm strength for his age, 2.03 best pop with game actions, puts the ball on the bag, has a chance to be a high level defensive catcher. Also played other positions but is definitely a catcher in the long term. Right handed hitter, hits with a deep hand load and spread stance, long and aggressive swing with some bat speed, hits to all fields and can get some back spin and carry at times. Also pitched, slow paced with late acceleration to the plate, worked in the upper 70's with good run and sink and landed his soft curveball for strikes in a quick inning. Good student.
