2013 Caribbean Top Prospect Showcase
Joel Huertas Ortiz is a 2014 LHP with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Dorado, PR who attends Carmen Sol HS. Big mature build with good lower half strength. Slow paced hand drop delivery, medium length arm action, arm is smooth and works well, gets downhill from a high 3/4's arm slot, tends to drift to third base side in delivery. Fastball topped out at 90 mph, has improved 6 mph over the past year, fastball mostly straight with some sink at the bottom of the zone, pitches to his arm side consistently. Curveball has tight spin and downer bite, good depth at times, could throw CB more, potential plus pitch with more feel/command. Rare change up was a bit firm. Shows big improvement and two pro quality pitches on a strong lefty. Good student. Named to the Caribbean Showcase Top Prospect team.
