2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Joseph Oliveira is a 6'0", 180 lb. catcher from San Diego, California, with MLB arm strength. He showed a very good 1.98-2.09 pop time range and pro level 82 mph velocity from behind the plate. He threw a 2.17 and a 2.21 pop times in the game. He is quick for a catcher with a 7.15 sixty time and 4.63 home to first time in the game. Joseph is a right handed hitter with a medium stance and average bat speed. He has a no load approach with a slight knee lift trigger and good balance in his swing. Joseph shows quickness, arm strength, and good balance in his swing. With more polishing of his footwork behind the plate, and getting more lower half help in his swing, Joseph should continue to blossom. We also liked his hustling attitude and his willingness to work with PG staff during the showcase. College coaches take notice, this kid can play. He's an excellent student.
