Gray vs Black

2/4/2023

Jimmy Byrne (’23, Strongsville, Ohio)- rips a double into deep left field on a line in the top of the first inning to score a run.

Nolan Laskey (’24, Temperance, Mich.)- with a loud barrel on a double to centerfield to drive in a run. Secondary right-handed pitcher throwing a heavy fastball and sharp slider when he gets to release point out front.

Josh McCune- (’26, Grand Rapids, Mich.)- Line-drive into centerfield to score a run. Gets the barrel on plane on a high fastball and drills it into center for a single.

Jackson Boles (’24, Canton, Ohio) Left-handed pitcher showing a live arm and ability to spin a breaking ball over three scoreless innings. He ran the fastball up to 84 mph (2175 RPM) with natural cut action and a breaking ball at 70 mph (1488 RPM). The left-handed hitting primary outfielder also went deep to right field against a left-handed pitcher during game.

Jackson Long (’24, ONT, CAN)- long and lanky frame right-handed pitcher running the fastball up to 81 mph with arm side run and life through the zone. Lower ¾ slot release that jumps on hitters and couples it with a hard slider with tilt.

Bryce Cowell (’24, Somerset, Ky.)- talented catcher stays on a fastball down and away and drills it into rightfield for a single. First hit of the day for Team Gray.

Jacob Belecky (’24, Komoka, ON)- right-handed pitcher showing a solid three-pitch mix. Fastball 83-85 mph (2035 RPM) with arm side run and shorter slider with late break at 66 mph (2303 RPM). Dashed a changeup at 70 mph (1488 RPM) to complete his repertoire.

Jackson Asaro (’25, Plymouth, Mich.)-turned on a heavy fastball and lined it to deep left field for a standup double.

Casey Doner (’24, Mason, Ohio)- athletic outfielder sits back on a first pitch breaking ball and lines a one-hopper off the left field wall and hustles into second for a double.

Andrew Schneider (’23, Valley City, OH)- Homerun to right field in the last inning from the strong-framed left-handed hitting first baseman.

Navy vs. Orange

2/4/2023

Andrew Gappy

Medium frame that found in game success with a first at bat barrel into right field. The base hit put runs in scoring position with one out. Smooth swing with tons of project-ability remaining.

Max McCluskey

Impressed in the first inning of game one as he ranged well in the left center field gap to run down a fly ball and delivered a strike to the plate to catch the runner trying to advance. Carried it right to the catchers mitt.

Quinn Costanzo

Athletic build with an athletic swing. First at-bat was a pull side top hand laser into left field. The swing shows some looseness to it with a direct path and quick hands. Later in the game found another loud pull side barrel.

Noah Miller

Strong physical presence in the box, saw four straight breaking balls which he handled well before lasering a rocket back through the middle, stayed inside the ball well and rewarded him with a run batted in.

Nick Shenefelt

Clean left handed stroke with significant pull side power. In his first at bat he worked deep into the count before hammering a shot to the pull side. Easy to project with added strength and size that it could really pop. Love the operation.

Max Hirsch

Smaller lean frame. The swing is clean and should play up with the added strength. In his third at bat he found a hard barrel back through the middle in an 0-2 count. A lot to like here going forward.

Logan Melo

Bigger frame that creates big leverage to the pull side in the air. The load is calm with a slight coiling aspect to it. The ball jumps off the barrel. Potential future middle of the order run producing type bat.

Batting Practice Highlights

2/4/2023

Nolan Alvord (2024 OF, Fenton, MI) has an athletic 5-10/170 build and some strength for his size.  The right-hander hits from a straight stance with a nice shift into contact and made consistent hard gap to gap contact with carry.

Nolan Laskey (2024 1B, Temperance, MI) stands out for his 6-4/220 build and big-time strength.  He hits from a tall stance with a calm and simple swing approach and generates serious bat speed.  He hit some lasers off the center field bubble that would have been well out of a normal out door field.

Bryce Cowell (2024 C, Somerset, KY) has very good strength in his 6-0/175 frame and gets very good lower half rotation to drive his swing and create bat speed.  He has an aggressive approach and big jump off the barrel.

Ty O'Brien (2023, C, Bowling Green, OH) is a strong right handed hitter who hits from a tall and narrow stance with a well controlled stride into contact.  He creates plenty of barrel whip and gets lots of back spin to the middle of the field.

Peyton Ganda (2025 C, Medina, OH) is another extra strong right-handed hitter with lots of hitting potential.  He uses his big lower half well in generating bat speed and creates plenty of lift to the middle of the field.

Andrew Schneider (2025 1B, Valley City, OH) has a very nice swing base and repeats his timing and mechanics very well.  The result was very consistent hard pull line drive contact from the left-handed hitter.

Max Hirsch (2026 2B, Hinckley, OH) has plenty of time to add size and strength to his young 5-7/130 build  but he's a very good athlete and that athleticism shows in his swing.  He makes hard middle of the field contact with very good extension through contact.

Enzo DiCocco (2026 OF, Broadview Heights, OH) is another smaller freshman with a very good swing, this one from the left-side, and is going to keep improving as he gets more physically mature.

Lochlan Stoudt (2024 1B, Clarkston, MI) doesn't get cheated at the plate.  The right-handed hitter takes an aggressive strong swing and really fires his strong hips hard.  He has some uphill plane and creates lots of mid-field carry and jump when he squares it up.

Brennan Runyon (2025 RHP, Newport, MI) is a primary pitcher but the 6-4/215 left-handed hitter has excellent hitting mechanics that create very consistent hard barrel contact.  He hits under control and his natural strength drives his bat speed.

Nick Shenefelt (2024 3B, Birmingham, MI) has a loose and easy left-handed swing with present bat speed and more to come.  He gets coiled early and comes out of it on time with very nice extension through contact.

Noah Miller (2023 C, Lasalle, MI) stands out in all areas of the game but really stood out in BP.  He has very fast hands and a very aggressive swing approach that created hard gap to gap contact with carry.

Max McCluskey (2024 OF, Jackson, MI) is a strong 6-0/195 right handed hitter and he uses that strength well to create bat speed.  He peppered the dome with gap to gap line drive contact.
