Historical Scouting Memory
“The Scorpions ran through a playoff gauntlet to win its first 17U WWBA National Championship. The Scorpions beat three top five national programs during bracket play, capping it off with a walk-off win in the finals. The team featured sixteen future MLB draft picks with Foster Griffin, Adam Haseley, Brendan Rodgers, and Logan Warmoth all ended up going in the first round. The Scorpions typically have a balanced group that can run, play defense and throw strikes. This group may go down as the most balanced in all those ways, as well as, the high-end professional prospects. The tools and grit displayed made this team a must watch every time they stepped on the diamond. Rodgers and Haseley were both top 10 overall picks, and both have also already made their MLB debuts. There is a great chance a handful more will in the future.”
What We Are Looking Forward to Scouting in 2020
“The 2021 roster is as strong as any organization in the country! Brandon Neely can match up against any lineup in the country he faces. They have versatility in the lineup with guys like Ben Petri, Ty Evans, Corey Robinson, and Deric Fabian. They have a great blend of power and speed and all have resumes of current performance. Aidan Meola has been a key run producer in the middle and has the ability to hit for power to all fields. Hagan Banks and Alden Segui can light up radars guns and Pierce Coppola has enormous upside in his lefthanded arm. The 2022 group will run out an infield that can both play great defense and have big offensive profiles. Jesus Pena, Bradley White II and Luke Wilkerson should anchor that deep infield group. Riley Hansen has a chance to be special behind the plate and Evan Griffis is a talented outfield prospect. The Scorpions remain one of the top draws on the circuit.”
Program History
The Orlando Scorpions were started in 1994 by Sal Lombardo when his own son, Mario was 10. Sal has always stated that he started this organization for very “selfish” reasons in as much as he wanted his kid and all his All Stars from West Seminole Pony league to try this Travel Ball thing beginning with AAU. They got their butts beat by older kids early on but by the time they were 12 they placed 5th in the nation in an AAU tournament. The Scorpions went on to win many other fun and great events. The Mission Statement was and has always been to give these kids a chance to play great competition in front of college scouts and recruiters. We are equally as proud to have many successful Doctors, Lawyers, Business Owners, Rocket Scientists (yes, we do have one), and entertainers play in our organization who have stated that their formative years playing in competitive baseball forged their future careers in something other than baseball.
