History
FTB was formed in the fall of 2008 when Team Mizuno combined with the Central Florida Black Racers to create the powerhouse we know today. The first summer started with two teams, one at each of the 16u and 17u level. Owner George Gonzalez pushed to build rosters from coast-to-coast within two years, showing up to Jupiter in 2010 with a roster including prospects from California, New York, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, the Virgin Islands, and its normal elite group of Florida prospects. In the early years, Gonzalez always looked to build a roster with a chance to win the WWBA National Championship in the summer, and then reload to try and build a roster with a chance to win the WWBA World World Championship (Jupiter).  Since 2010, FTB has produced twenty-eight first round draft picks and at least one member of its alumni drafted in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft for ten consecutive years. The most recent was Riley Greene who was selected 5th overall by the Detroit Tigers in the 2019 MLB draft. FTB boasts nine MLB All-Star selections, five World Series Champions, and a Rookie of the Year award winner. Fun facts: To start the summer of 2009, FTB’s starting first baseman was Blake Bortles and with Jeff Driskel starting in centerfield; both have since gone on to start games in the NFL at quarterback. Driskel was also drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 29th round of the 2013 MLB draft. Philadelphia Phillies Manager, Joe Girardi, coached FTB teams during the summers of 2018 and 2019 while Austin Chubb is now the High-A Manager for Rancho Cucamonga, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate and Clay Middleton is a catching coach in the Texas Rangers organization-both played for FTB during their high school days.

After runner-up finishes three times before (two of which came in walk-off fashion), the perseverance shown by the FTB coaches, players, and parents to continue to attack challenges head-on is what I am most proud of. It’s easy to come so close, so many times, to just fold.  All members of the organization used those close losses to learn and work even harder. It still brings a smile to my face. 2019 Scouting Highlight
“Perfect Game All-American Brandon Fields was driving back and forth from Orlando to Jupiter during the WWBA World Championships to take care of his responsibilities on the gridiron. After a casual Friday night when Fields ran for 170-yards and scored two touchdowns, he hopped in the car first thing on Saturday morning to join his team at the WWBA. He made a sensational running catch to save extra bases early in the game and to cap off the day the powerfully built righthanded hitter connected for one of the longest home runs we witnessed during the event. No one would have blamed Fields if he skipped out on Jupiter, as most football player tend to do, but he came, competed and he absolutely helped himself by showing up and finishing up his great Perfect Game career in spectacular fashion.”  

What are we looking forward to scouting during the summer of 2020?
“There is a lot to look forward to after checking out FTB’s listed summer rosters, especially at the 17u and 16u levels. The 17u line up already features top 100 players in outfielder Jay Allen, catcher Jayden Melendez, and outfielder Victor Rodriguez as well as two-way stars Michael Braswell, Jac Caglianone and Edwin Arroyo.  Then there is Chase Petty and Termarr Johnson who are expected to join the team at the WWBA. Anthony Ursitti, Cameron Clines and Ethan Wood all sit right outside of the top-100 and have the type of upside to make enormous jumps. Treylen "TJ" White and Matthew Prevesk have as much upside as most outfielders in the country and will join Allen and Rodriguez in the outfield. Fisher Jameson, Raul Diaz Jr., Braden Calise, Corey Braun, Reece Soper, and Trenten Caples are all uncommitted and should find homes at excellent D-1 schools. Lastly with the 17u group, Dominic Scavone was having a monster spring before shutdown and will be watched closely this summer as well. A 16u outfield with Elijah Green, Mason Neville, and DeAmez Ross is as dynamic as it gets at that level. A middle infield of JeanPierre Ortiz and Titan Kamaka should rival the outfield in prospect status. Simon Kohn and Yoel Tejeda Jr team with Luke Heyman to add power to what looks like a fierce middle of the order. The pitching staff will be anchored by a good blend of both righties and lefties with some big time upside arms like Chandler Dorsey, Jamie Arnold, Davion Hickson, Ryan Denison, Drew Hunt, Treyson Green, and Joe King, all of whom will be must follows each time they are on the bump.”    



Historical Scouting Notes
“In a lot of ways, the #1 scouting memory should be when Jose Fernandez toed the rubber against the Dallas Patriots. The Patriots had future MLB arm John Curtiss on the mound and MLB All-Stars Josh Bell and Trevor Story in the lineup. Fernandez had Francisco Lindor, Javier Baez, Daniel Vogelbach, and Jesse Winker playing behind him, among others. A telling story of the type of prospects that are on rosters when competing at the WWBA World Championship in Jupiter. An even more telling, and seemingly forgotten scouting story for FTB, occurred the next year at the same event. FTB had both its Jupiter teams square off in the Elite Eight under the bright lights in Jupiter.  FTB’s “second team”, Central FL PG Royal, came away with the 5-3 win over the Cardinals Scout Team/FTB Mizuno. The Cardinals outfield that evening consisted of David Dahl, Albert Almora and Jesse Winker, with Alex Bregman playing shortstop and Tomas Nido behind the plate. All are now current rostered players in the MLB. Three pitchers threw for the FTB Cardinals that night; Zach Eflin started with Yency Almonte and Robert Whalen throwing in relief, all three have made their MLB debuts. Not to be outdone, Central FL PG Royal had Christian Arroyo playing shortstop and Edwin Rios playing right field. Joe Jimenez pitched them into the round of eight as he won the Sweet-16 game earlier that day. All three have made their MLB debuts respectively. In all, FTB flexed deep rosters in both dugouts with a mind-blowing thirty-seven future draft picks between the two. The game featured eleven future MLB players (to date) with seven going in the first round. It was a one stop shop for scouts and recruiters that night and really showed the strength of where the FTB organization had grown to be.”

Best College Resume
A 2014 College World Series Champion for Vanderbilt, Vince Conde, won the Gold Glove as the nation’s best defensive shortstop. A three-year starter, Conde also hit .284 with 50 RBI during the championship season. Jake Eder has been a key piece to the Vanderbilt pitching staff over the last three years. He closed out the College World Series in the deciding game in 2019, going three strong innings while striking out four batters. Jonathan India was tabbed the 2018 Southeastern Conference player of the Year and also won a College World Series title during his sophomore campaign with the Florida Gators. He was also a unanimous First Team All-American. Alex Bregman was a two time All-American, Brooks Wallace Award winner for the nation’s best shortstop, National Freshman of the Year, Gold Spikes Finalist, Skip Bertman Award recipient, and led LSU to the 2015 College World Series. DJ Stewart was a two time All-American and 2014 ACC Player of the Year while leading the Florida State Seminoles to the College World Series in 2013. He was also a two-time Gold Spikes Award semifinalist. Brooks Wilson had an incredible career for Stetson, leading the Hatters to a Super Regional in 2018. He was the 2018 ASUN Player of the Year and 1st Team All-American and also owns the ASUN’s single season record for saves.      



Best Pro Careers
Jose Fernandez had an incredible start to his major league career posting a 38 and 7 record over parts of four seasons.  His career 2.58 ERA and 589 strikeouts were among the very best in the game during that time. He was on his way to a Hall of Fame type career and was beloved for his charismatic personality before his tragic death in a boating accident.  One of the top handful of players in Major League Baseball today is Cleveland Indians Shortstop Francisco Lindor.  Known as “Mr. Smile”, Lindor has produced a .288-average with 130 home runs for the Indians during his five seasons. A four time All-Star,  two time Sliver Slugger, and two time Gold Glove Award winner he has accomplished an incredible amount at the young age of 26. He is one of the most exciting players to watch in all of sports. “El Mago”, Spanish for “The Magician”, Javier Baez has drawn a huge following for his incredible flair. He has made tag plays sexy, and finds countless ways to make spectacular plays. He also won a Silver Slugger award in 2018 on his way to leading the National League in RBI.
