Putting the "U" in Future

Aiden Salinas and Matthew Kelley are two of College Prospects 14u players who are already committed to play college baseball.

Salinas, a rising freshman from Corpus Christi, Texas has been a force at the plate all season long. In his first game of the Southeast Elite Championship, Salinas went 2-for-4 at the plate, reaching on a leadoff triple to the left side and a ground ball to shortstop, scoring two of College Prospects' six runs. In addition to his batting, Salinas is the No.7-ranked shortstop in his class and has seen success playing middle infield.



Kelley, also a rising freshman, has played for several travel ball teams, including USA Prime and his current team, the College Prospects. Kelley, from San Diego, California, is the No.5-ranked shortstop in the class of 2027 and committed to the University of Miami in January of 2023.


In November of 2022, Kelley, alongside other top players from around the country, took part in the 14u National All-State Select Championship, where he showed great strength playing the middle infield at shortstop.

“Those guys can smack the ball around and play defense,” College Prospects coach said. “They are very strong kids that are going to have a great opportunity when they get to (The University of Miami). These guys are studs for sure.”

Both players announced this spring their commitments to play for the University of Miami Hurricanes once they graduate from high school in 2027.


“The coaching staff there is great, and they just got a brand new facility,” Salinas said. “The school is not too big, not too small so it's a great size.”

The Canes have had success so far this season defeating the No.1-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons to reach the ACC championship game against the Clemson Tigers. The Canes now host the Coral Gables Regional in the NCAA tournament.

“I love watching those guys,” Kelley said about the Miami Canes baseball team. “They blew Maine out yesterday and got Texas today and it should be a good game.”

The College Prospects 14u has had success in pool play going 2-0 Saturday in a double header. In their first game against the Georgia Jackets 14u - Navy, the Prospects came out with a 6-3 win. Following that game, the Prospects clinched another victory, 3-1, against the 6-4-3 Dp Tigers 14u.

Kelley, Salinas, and the College Prospects now sit at No.1 in their pool and await the start of bracket play on Sunday.

“They just got to work, keep working,” College Prospects coach said. “You know, go out there hit off the tee, make sure they get their speed correct and make sure that their arms get right.”
