A staple on the national scene, Bishop Gorman may be lacking some of their star power that they’ve had in the past, but this is still a really well-rounded roster that could compete, and beat, just about anybody in the country at their best. Easton Shelton is a signature bat in the region while the duo of Perry and Soder is strong at the top of the rotation. Burke Mabeus is one of the top juniors in the country and brings a huge piece to the heart of this lineup and if their guys play to the potential, this is a deep lineup with enough big arms to win a state title. They’ve got plenty of underclass pieces that can contribute, and it’ll be fun to watch how this teams blends a handful of guys that didn’t lead the way a year ago.

9. Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.)
2022 Record: 22-8-1

Speaking of programs that have had their fair share of high-end names come through, Harvard Westlake has a very rich history of producing big talent and they’ve got some special ones on the roster now. They play in Southern California so it’s an always difficult schedule, but this is a team built for winning big games. Gasparino is a PG All-American who can impact the game in a huge way in the box and Caranto, Lozano, Lieb and Goldstein are three good supporting bats, but the star here is two-way talent Bryce Rainer who looks every bit the part of a first rounder in 2024. He’s healthy again and will bring electricity to the mound with the stuff to be their ace while he’s extremely impactful with the bat giving this team all it needs to have a massive year.

8. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.)
2022 Record: 29-4

Like many of the teams ranked here amongst the best, Hamilton won the state title last year and although Gavin Turley, the state’s top prospect in 2022, is now graduated, they’ve got a long list of guys with a ton of talent, and they once again look the part of one of the country’s best. PG All-American Roch Cholowsky is as sure handed up the middle as they come giving them comfort at the shortstop position while Wadas brings some of the biggest juice in the country to the heart of that lineup. Their list runs deeps with guys like Tiedemann, Mauzey, Kucherak, Brass, Diaz, among many more giving that lineup a ton of depth while they’ve got plenty of Division I level arms filling out the rotation.

7. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.)
2022 Record: 44-0
Head Coach: Matt Petry

The reigning national champions come in a few spots back from that top spot they finished in a year ago, but it’s hard to replace the group they lost in 2022, including National Pitcher of the Year Brock Porter. This is a program that doesn’t take any breaks when it comes to a talented crop and 2023 certainly won’t be that; Blake Grimmer is the big senior name in this group as he has a ton of talent in the box while there’s plenty of other talented and experienced bats aroud him, including junior Parker Brzustewicz. There’s some more questions in regard to who will step up as the ace in the rotation, but guys like Donovan, Kiafoulis, Toovalian and Henderson can eat innings and lead them to yet another state title in Michigan.

6. Huntington Beach (Huntington Beach, Calif.)
2022 Record: 25-9

Going back out to the west coast, the Huntington Beach team on paper is loaded and when you take into account what they did last year in winning the Southern California Tournament and look at the fact that they bring back almost that entire roster for 2023, it sets up really lofty expectations. PG All-American Raffaele Velazquez is the big name in the heart of this lineup as he can change a game with one swing of a bat, while there’s a deep core of seniors that have a mix of talent and experience winning. Where this team does really well is incorporating their younger guys and they did that already last year with Trent Grindlinger already showing out as one of their best hitters and he’s just a sophomore now. They’ve got guys that can swing it, real athleticism throughout the lineup and guys that throw lots of strikes; they’re set up for success.

5. Marjory Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.)
2022 Record: 30-2
Head Coach: Todd Fitzgerald

Stoneman Douglas is a true household name when it comes to high school baseball given their regularity of success and they’re coming off an extremely strong year where they lost only two games, won another state title and dominated at NHSI. They lose a difficult talent to replace in Roman Anthony, among others, but the group they return is deep. Christian Rodriguez is in his final year now and he’s an ace. Jacob Gomberg is an electric number two in that rotation while they’ve got some other intriguing pieces to step up. The lineup is a good one with solid seniors, but a really deep junior group made up of Fitz-Gerald, Lujo, Benestad, Gargiulo and Rodriguez with one of the top freshmen in the country, Lorenzo Laurel, also having the talent to factor in. They look the part of a title team and odds are they’ll win a ton of games and be in Fort Myers.

4. Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.)
2022 Record: 30-8
Head Coach: Chan Brown

Not many programs can say they’ve won at such a high level in recent memory as Parkview can and this year they might have their best roster in some time, making them the runaway choice for the top team in Georgia going into 2023. Colin Houck will make this offense go as he’s now become a highly regarded name for this year’s draft with the strides he’s made, and he pairs up the middle well with fellow senior Landon Stripling. They’ve got a couple other talented seniors that’ll impact, but no bigger impact will come than from the top underclass pitching duo in the country with Thorpe Musci and Ford Thompson. Both of those guys are amongst the top arms from the entire country in the ’24 class, and they’ll be headlining the same rotation in Georgia; they’ve got a ton of talent outside of their stars that give them the depth to win a lot, but this team’s heart of the order and rotation is going to be a lot of fun to watch in the big matchups.

3. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)
2022 Record: 23-2
Head Coach: Dave Turgeon

There’s really no surprise to see IMG up in this range given the caliber of talent they have year in and year out and although they don’t have the same elite fire power they’ve had in the past with guys like Elijah Green, Tommy White, Jackson Ferris or James Wood, among many others, there’s an abundance of exciting prospects to follow here. Cameron Johnson is one of the top left-handers in the country, Zion Rose transfers in and gives them one of the top backstops, Walton and Russell bring thump to the lineup and the array of arms in their senior crop is very deep. The underclassmen in the program are impressive; Noah Franco was the top prospect in 2025 before reclassing up, Andre Modugno is a high-level junior bat, Sean Gamble and Dean Moss are top 10 players as sophomores and the list goes on. They’re going to play a gauntlet of a schedule and we’ll have to see just how many wins they can rack up against those big names.

2. JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.)
2022 Record: 25-11

Notable Prospect(s): SS Trent Caraway (Oregon State), SS Jonathan Mendez (UC Santa Barbara), C Andrew Lamb (USC), RHP JJ Hollis (UC Santa Barbara), 1B Dominic Smaldino (California), RHP Brodie Purcell (USC), RHP Ben Reimers (Stanford), RHP Jayden Graves, 3B/RHP Matthew Champion (LSU), C Charlie Caruso (Northwestern), OF Adrian Nunez (Long Beach State), RHP Thomas Gonzales (San Diego), RHP Josh Hollis (Oregon), SS Cole Strane (USC), SS Jordan Marian (UC Santa Barbara), SS Marcus Greis (TCU)

Getting to the top couple spots is where things get difficult as every team in this range has the talent and capability of being the top team in the country. JSerra is a powerhouse program on the west coast and they’re uber-talented every year; this team doesn’t have the stars that they have had in the past, outside of All-American Trent Caraway, but they’re deep with guys that I think position them well to win one of the toughest schedules in the country. Caraway is their fire power with the bat as he can really hit and has some juice; guys like Mendez, Lamb, Smaldino, Champion, Caruso and so many more are really strong supporting cast in making this a good lineup. They’re pretty deep on the mound with guys that know how to pitch; JJ Hollis is one of the kryptonite type arms in the Trinity League who should win a ton of games, Champion is a crucial piece to this rotation as just a junior and they’ve got a lot more who will step up big.

1. Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.)
2022 Record: 26-2

Long, 3B Tad Brooks, SS Keeton Burroughs, C Andrew Tess (Pittsburgh), SS Jace Kohler (High Point), OF Aidan Brigato, 1B Cameron Uzzillia (NC State), LHP Grayson Gibson (Ole Miss)

When you look at this team without their top three guys, it would be a really well-rounded high school roster with a solid lineup and solid arms that would compete to make a strong run at a state title in a tough state. Now you add in the best rotation in the country, and one of the top groups of arms in one single high school rotation we’ve seen in some time, and you make this a crazy difficult matchup for anyone in the country. They’ve got 3 PG All-Americans leading their rotation with Liam Peterson, Hunter Dietz and Landen Maroudis, all of which have the upside of going early in this year’s draft. Now it’s not raw talent, but more so guys that know how to pitch and really compete to go with their significant stuff. Behind that is even more talent with a few more Division I arms in their senior class making this a team that may put up ridiculous stats of limiting runs per game. Where they’ll have to step up a little bit to continue to hold this spot is on the offensive side as there’s not as much star power in the lineup, but they’ve got guys that have shown they can hit, and Coach Greg Olsen’s program knows how to win plenty of games.
