Top-10 2024 Recruiting Classes

1. Tennessee Volunteers

The Volunteers have taken the college baseball world by storm as of late, building what looks to be a powerhouse program under the guidance of Tony Vitello, so it's only fitting they have some recruiting classes to match. It's already a big class and the depth plays a part in taking the top spot, as they are currently 21 commits deep. The talent also warrants the nod, as 14 of those commits fall within Perfect Game's top-200, eight of whom are top-100 ranked prospects. Right-hander Anson Seibert has done nothing but improve his stock throughout the summer, working comfortably in the low-90s, though it plays up given his 6-foot-8 frame and how well he hides the ball. Fellow right-hander Tegan Kuhns possesses one of the best breaking balls in the country at the age, while arms like Brayden Krenzel (a true breakout performer this fall in Jupiter), Tate Strickland, and Ryler Smart amongst others provide the class excellent talent and depth on the mound. There's a clear game plan here as well in regard to grabbing high-end, middle-of-the-field talent as shortstops Trey Snyder, Ty Southisene, Manuelle Marin and Chris Newstrom can all make an impact in the dirt and with the bat in their hands. Snyder has continued to climb up the boards thanks to his well-rounded skill set, while Southisene has long proven himself as one of the top defenders in the country while adding strength to his frame, making an impact in his offensive game. 



2. Louisiana State Tigers

Any time you open social media, there's a 50-50 chance you see LSU landing another talented piece to one of their recruiting classes, whether they're just opening up their high school career, or as we saw this past offseason, hitting the transfer portal for some of the biggest names already in college baseball. Head Coach Jay Johnson has brought his West Coast ties with him to Baton Rouge, and consider this for a second: 30% of the top-10 have given their verbals to the Tigers' coaching staff. Top-ranked Derek Curiel has been a stalwart atop the rankings since their initial release and he's done nothing but justify the lofty ranking, hitting for both average and power while playing next-level defense. Catcher Cade Arrambide and right-hander Landon Victorian were the starting battery at the 2020 14u Select Festival and continue to show their big-time talent on the diamond, with Arrambide being one of the more polished receivers in the country with a huge arm, while Victorian routinely works into the low-90s with feel and pitchability beyond his years. Both David Hogg II and Matthew Champion joined the aforementioned trio in Oklahoma City as members of the 14u West Squad, while a pair of third basemen in Daniel Arambula and Kale Fountain are two of the more physical players in the class and bring that strength with them into the batter's box. The deeper you dive into the class, the more talent you'll discover, as the depth is pretty incredible. 

3. Vanderbilt Commodores

It comes with little surprise anytime we work on a recruiting ranking feature that we find the Commodores situated towards the top of the rankings, just like this 2024 class as they carry the torch from a 2023 crop that recently checked in at No. 2 in the country. In Vanderbilt fashion, this group comes from all over the country as the commits hail from Hawaii to North Carolina, with prominent talent scattered across the states as six players find themselves within the most recent PG top-100. Left-hander Drew Bellis was electric in a short stint at the Junior National Showcase where he featured an array of pitches, all of which showed big life through the zone while bumping 90 mph with the heater. The Commodores are known for having frontline arm talent and that holds true here as well as both Austin Nye and Owen Hall feature a power arsenal; Nye up to 95 mph while Hall has bumped 92 mph, but for as loud as their stuff is now, the projection is just as intriguing and scary to think their best days are still ahead. Hawaii to Nashville isn't a very frequent pipeline but Aukai (Jaydon) Kea isn't your typical prospect, as he already features next-level strength with the stick in his hands. Switch-hitting Rustan Rigdon and Brodie Johnston, a smooth fielding in-state product, have the talent to anchor the middle infield while William Hampton packs a punch in his left-handed stroke, showing an intriguing combo of bat speed and strength already. 

4. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Just two short years ago the Bulldogs were on top of the college baseball world with their College World Series victory, and given the success they've had on the recruiting trail, don't be surprised if there's another in the near future. Smaller than some of the classes we've looked at to this point with just 12 players giving their verbal commitments to Head Coach Chris Lemonis, the ranking of the class suggests the quality of player State has committed as eight of the 12 are currently ranked in Perfect Game's top-100. Slugger PJ Morlando possesses top-of-the-scales left-handed power and has moved to the outfielder where he has adapted quickly. If you like power bats then you'll enjoy watching Henry Allen hit; like fast-twitch with a top-of-the-order skill set, Dante Nori has you covered; dynamic athlete with two-way potential and electric arm speed, then hone in on Conrad Cason. Right-hander Jack Frankel shows all the traits you want to see in a young arm from a power fastball (94 mph) to advanced secondaries and refined command. The depth of talent on the mound certainly stands out with this class as State also has commitments secured from William Schmidt (Louisiana), Braden Booth (Alabama), Ryan McPherson (Florida) and Cade Oleary (Pennsylvania), showing the reach on the national trail. 

5. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The Jackets have a long history of cleaning up in-state talent, something they've continued to do with this 2024 class, and the approach has landed the class at No. 5 nationally as 11 of their 16 commits come from the Peach State. William Baker wins the award for furthest distance traveled, as the Australian shortstop made the most of his time stateside this summer prior to this commitment. He may be listed as a shortstop, but it's hard to ignore what Connor Shouse brought to the mound in Georgia as he worked a low-effort 92-95 mph and looks to have even more in the tank moving forward. He's not the only power arm Head Coach Danny Hall has committed, as both Thorpe Musci (94 mph) and Sebastian Lippman (95 mph) averaged better than a strikeout-per-inning and lead the way in a class that features seven primary arms in total. Shortstop Ethan Murray has some of the top tools in the state as well, showing silky smooth defensive actions while possessing the type of juice that can attract a crowd when at the plate. Uber-athletic outfielder Bo Walker has the talent to take over a game with his 6.3 speed. The Jackets have a track record of developing backstops and they have a trio in Drew Rogers, Cayden Sheffield and Aidan Paradine, all of whom show present skill and project well moving forward. 

6. Florida State Seminoles

The 2022 season marks the start of the Link Jarrett era in Tallahassee, bringing with him a pedigree for winning and not only recruiting, but developing talent once on campus. He and his staff inherited a class that already had three players within Perfect Game's top-100 before recently adding a fourth in left-hander Matt Hoag, a long and projectable southpaw who continues to make big strides and has already been up to 91 mph. We'll stay on the mound as the top three recruits for the Seminoles are all primary arms. Talan Bell, who has an upper-80s fastball and late-diving changeup and very real two-way potential, and hard throwing right-hander Chase Mobley, who continues to refine and miss bats at an alarming rate, join Hoag in giving the class a trio of high-end arms. As a whole there's lots of athleticism sprinkled throughout their 15 commits, whether it's do-it-all backstop Hunter Carns, who has continually hit at a high level over the years, or two-sport star Kameron Davis, who possesses elite speed and advanced strength. A trio of shortstops need to be monitored closely in Austin Jacobs, Adonys Velez and Noah Sheffield, as all three rank within PG's top-120, with Jacobs leading the way thanks to fast hands and bat-to-ball skills that have proven to play regardless of the arm he's facing. 

7. Auburn Tigers

Three players ranked within PG's top-50 is typically a good launching point for a recruiting class, and though it's still early in the process and more players will undoubtedly be added, the Tigers are in good shape already with the crop they have committed. Left-hander Jackson Sanders sits atop the class and it's a familiar spot for the young Alabama native, as he currently checks in at No. 15 overall nationally thanks to a fastball that peaks in the low-90s courtesy of electric arm speed while showing a true wipeout slider as an out pitch. Slugger Tanner Waldrop lives down the road from campus as an Auburn native, and securing his commitment was huge given the thump he packs offensively. Righty Christian Chatterton joins Sanders as an in-state arm with a standout arsenal and overall feel. Head Coach Butch Thompson's other two top-100 commits could very well anchor the left side of the infield for years to come with Floridians Anthony Tralongo and Christopher Rembert. Tralongo shows a pure hit tool while Rembert is a twitchy shortstop who can do it all. From left-hander Taft Middleton to hard throwing Eli Driskell, the Tigers have nine primary pitchers currently committed and the staff as a whole features a variety of arms, while Chase Fralick is currently the top-ranked backstop in their class. 

8. Louisville Cardinals

The Cardinals coaching staff has long been at the forefront of assembling talented classes early in the recruiting process, identifying young talent in the Midwest before truly blowing up on the national scene. It's something we've seen pretty consistently over the years, which has led to retained success come the spring. Big and athletic certainly seems to be a theme as each of their six top-ranked commits check in at 6-foot-2 or taller, led by right-hander Jake Gregor, a Louisville native, who proved to be a model of consistency this summer while running his fastball up to 94 mph this fall. The Midwest has once again proven to be fertile recruiting ground for the staff as left-hander Tague Davis and righties Luke Oblen and Brady Davis have all flirted with 90 mph on the radar gun with their fastballs but will only continue to grow into additional velocity moving forward. Outfielder Cole Crafton is about as athletic as they come and he has the tools to match, though he's also a high-level football recruit and continues to garner interest on the gridiron. For as much as we talked about the Midwest, the class has also expanded its reach, pulling both hard-hitting Thomas Bly and Kamden (KJ) Scobey out of Florida, who showed some real thump this summer while 6-foot-5 right-hander Alex Gay is a New York native currently attending IMG Academy in Florida as well. 

9. Texas A&M Aggies
Head Coach: Jim Schlossnagle | Recruiting Coordinator: Nolan Cain

Regardless of what you're looking for in terms of a prospect, odds are you'll be able to find it in this Aggie recruiting class as the staff hit the ground running upon arriving on campus last spring and has continued to clean up with quality talent since. It's a Texas-centric class as you might expect, given the surplus of talent around the state. The class is led by a talented and ultra-projectable 6-foot-3 left-hander in Cooper Williams, who was the definition of dominant in 2022, running his fastball up to 92 mph while striking out 31 to just 3 walks in 19 1/3 innings pitched. If you like lefties then it's worth pointing out that five of their seven primary arms are in fact left-handed, with the likes of Bryce Navarre and Caden McCoy cracking the top-275, though right-hander Aiden Sims is primed for a big year in 2023 with an electric fastball and next-level breaker. No need to worry about the offense either, as the Aggies have a quartet of top-100 ranked prospects already committed in Wyatt Sanford (No. 64), Terrence Kiel II (No. 81), Sam Erickson (No. 86) and Elbert Craig (No. 89) leading the way in a class that's very deep top to bottom. Sanford is a sweet-swinging left-handed stick who has the tools to stick at shortstop, while Kiel II couldn't really seem to get out throughout the summer circuit, handling the barrel extremely well with game changing speed both on the bases and in the outfield. Of course, every lineup needs some thump in the middle and that's exactly what Erickson and Craig bring to the table. 

10. Oregon Ducks

The Ducks and Head Coach Mark Wasikowski received a huge boost to their 2024 class a week or so back as they secured the commitment from catcher Burke Mabeus, a one-time TCU commit and 14u Select Festival alum. Getting the verbal from a top-50 player nationally helped the class continue to move north and Mabeus is a cornerstone-type piece for this group as he's a switch-hitting backstop with very real juice from either side and the type of defensive skills and arm strength that can quickly change a game. We know the Ducks have strong ties in California, and this class is proving to be no exception as five of their top-seven ranked commits are all residents, including a pair of right-handers at the top in Will Sanford and Alexander Umland. Both arms impressed with their talents during the Junior National Showcase, where Umland proved to be the model of projection with a loose and fluid operation and a heater that has been up to 91 mph, while there's some real two-way potential with Sanford, who shows a low-90s fastball of his own but also lots of strength in his hands offensively. Keep close eyes on right-hander Naulivou Lauaki out of Utah as well, as the 6-foot-3 right-hander has already been up to 92 mph with his heater. Catcher Josh Springer hasn't been on the national circuit as much as some of his classmates, but the combination of he and Mabeus has to have Wasikowski feeling good about the future of the catching position, while shortstop Dylan Green was one of the very first commits in this crop and has a long track record of hitting at a high level.
