Joey Volchko (2023, Visalia, Calif.) went against a tough lineup and immediately became one of, if not the most, impressive and interesting arms to take the mound throughout the event. The Stanford commit features a long, lanky build at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. There is athleticism present allowing for a quick tempo delivery down the mound. The right-hander throws from a deceptive overhead slot with arm speed present. The arm slot helps create a steep downhill plane on the fastball which showed advanced velocity. The heater sat 90-93 mph and topped out at an impressive 95 mph. The plane and velocity helped generate frequent whiffs. Volchko paired the fastball with an upper-70s curveball that showed traits of being an out pitch. The offering flashed sharp, late bite when at its best. Volchko can be nearly unhittable at times. If the command can become more consistent, the ceiling can become extremely high.
