Chance Mako (2023, Salisbury, N.C.) is a well-known name on the circuit, and he put his high-end repertoire on display once again today in a start for the South Charlotte Panthers. Mako is extra-lean right now, has added good muscle mass in the last year and at 6-foot-6, 190 pounds, the RHP still has plenty of room to fill out even more. His delivery is simple, in line and very explosive at foot strike. He generates his arm speed from a loose core and accelerates through his three-quarter arm angle by generating a lot of torque in his midsection. He added a twist today, that I had not seen out of him before when he did a little quick pitch slide step in his windup on a breaking ball generating a big swing-and-miss. His fastball command took about an inning to really lock in but once he got dialed in it sat in the 87-92 range, grabbing 93 several times. His slider was a wipeout pitch as usual, and he landed it behind in the count at will it seemed. The NC State commit went 4 innings today, surrendering no hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and striking out 6 batters.
