Owen Paino (2024, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) got his week off to a hot start with a two-hit day out of the leadoff spot for the Canes National team. The Ole Miss commit picked up a hit in his first at-bat when he went the other way with a fastball on the outer half and dropped a single into left field. Paino would later come up in his third at-bat and drive a baseball into right field, this time catching it with a little more authority and hitting the ball sharply on a one-hop right to the right fielder. His setup and approach will allow him to use the entire field as he simplifies and can trust that at 6-foot-3 and 196 pounds, he brings enough bat speed and punch to the point of contact to drive the baseball. On the other side of the ball, he continues to prove he is capable of moving well enough at shortstop to make the plays necessary. In a standout effort on Wednesday, he went to his left picking up a ball behind the second base bag and making the throw on the run off of the wrong foot with a quick swivel of the hips. This skill set continues to be one of the more intriguing ones in the class and will be a fun one to watch over the next two years of his prep career.
