Lamar King, C, Calvert Hall College High School (Md.)

Atop the leader board in home runs in the state of Maryland with 14, King led his Cardinals to the MIAA “A” conference semifinals before being eliminated by a young and talented John Carroll squad. An absolute specimen, King stands a 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, looking like he should play linebacker for the Yellow Jackets in addition to handling their pitching staff. In the most recent look of the talented backstop, he would go 2-for-3 with two doubles including an RBI double in the second inning. Peppering his first double off the right field fence, King got the barrel on plane early, met the pitch deep, and was able to create lift with that strong lower half of his. Missing a home run by only a few feet, what could’ve been a two-run home run would put runners on second and third for the Cardinals. For his second double, King smoked a ball down the third base line that would go all the way to the fence. At the time it would bring the Cardinals within one run of the Cavs, but ultimately be the last run the Cardinals would push across. The Georgia Tech signee ambushed the first pitch he saw, once again, showing tremendous barrel control, getting the bat head out on an 89 mph heater on the inner half of the plate. One of the top players in the state, King has been on many scout's radars for a couple years now and with how much damage he did at the plate this spring, a selection in July’s draft certainly would not be surprising.
