PG Underclass Midwest Select Championships

Iowa Select Pratt cruised to a 5-1 victory over Velocity Baseball 2023’s in their first game of the tournament. Coming in to pitch the final inning for Iowa Select was right-hander Pierce Anderson (2023, Johnston, Iowa). Anderson struck out the side to secure the win for his squad, sitting 82-87 mph and topping out at 88 mph. 88 is a personal best for Anderson in PG events, and it is certainly a promising sign for his development moving forward. He has a big and physical frame at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, and there is definite strength to the build. He relied mostly on the fastball, but the curveball showed real promise and could be an out pitch for him as he continues to develop it. It displayed 12-6 shape with downer action, and it plays well off his over-the-top arm slot. It will be more effective as he gets ahead in the count with his fastball and is able to throw his curveball with more room for error. He gets good downhill angle on release, and he was not afraid to challenge on the inside half of the zone. Anderson is the No. 8 ranked player in the state, a top-500 player nationally, and he is currently uncommitted. With continued development and intriguing velocity jumps like the one today, we expect him to find his college home sooner rather than later.
