Anthony Ursitti, RHP, Canterbury (Fla.)

Ursitti got the start for Canterbury and although he didn’t have his sharpest command in the outing, he battled hard and was able to hand the ball to the bullpen with the lead in the fifth inning. Working 90-93 mph with the fastball, he worked to either half of the plate throughout, staying away from barrels while going to the secondary stuff often. The curveball was the more used pitch as he spun it well and was able to land a good amount, getting a handful of swings and misses, but he did show the changeup a good bit as well in the mid-80s and when he stays through it and tunnels it off the fastball, it is a very effective pitch against hitters from either side of the plate.

Tanner Fairchild, 3B, Out of Door Academy (Fla.)

Fairchild, a senior for ODA, had a couple of the biggest swings of the night as he ended up with a home run in both the first and last inning. The physical left-handed hitting third baseman looks the part in the box and doesn’t get cheated when he swings the bat as he fires his body into impact with authority. His first home run came in the first inning when he took a 91 mph fastball down in the zone out on a line to straight-away center. His second home run went out in a bit of a different way as it was a towering blast to right field that very comfortably cleared the wall and put his team up by a few heading into the last half. While his impact comes with the bat, he did show off a very strong arm from the hot corner and has the mobility to play the position well, which bodes well for his ability to impact early at the next level.
