Georgia HS Playoffs: Scout Notebook

Harry Ford, C, North Cobb High School (Ga.)

Ford has been generating a ton of buzz this spring as he looks to be one of the top catchers taken in the MLB Draft. His showing this week was another proving moment as he found plenty of barrels and was solid behind the dish. His glove work behind the dish looks to have improved as he stole strikes all night lower in the zone. We all know his plus arm strength as well. Although he wasn’t tested during the doubleheader, he casually threw it down around 1.90 seconds in between innings.

The bat has long been one of Ford's best tools and it was shown during the playoffs. He saw a bevy of off-speed pitches and utilized a mature approach as he spit on plenty of pitches down in the zone. The hand speed here is elite as he does a great job firing the hands and hips while generating big bat speed. Power is starting to show in the swing as he drives it deep with just a flick of the wrist. Something worth noting is also the speed. He hit a blooper over the first baseman’s head and busted out of the box as he legged out a double. It’s the little things like those hustle plays that set Ford head and shoulders above most. Although Ford is committed to noted Catcher U in Georgia Tech, you can almost count on him being a high draft pick and will never make it to campus in Atlanta.
