Saturday Notebook

Iowa Select Frese defeated Iowa Select Pratt 5-0 on Saturday morning, thanks to an absolutely dominating performance on the mound from Cameron Loyd (2021, Columbia, Mo.). The Johnson County CC commit threw a complete game shutout, going six innings with 13 strikeouts and allowing just two hits and three walks. He sat 82-85 mph and spun his breaker in the low-70s while throwing 61 percent of his pitches for strikes. The right-hander showed obvious swing-and-miss stuff, as 10 of his strikeouts came via the swing. He works extremely quick on the mound and has an up-tempo delivery, making it uncomfortable for the opposing team. Loyd displayed excellent feel for his breaker, throwing it at any time and showing the ability to land it for a strike or bury it as a put-away pitch. The senior has a compact and physical build with present strength, and he constantly challenged in the zone and kept hitters off balance. It was certainly an impressive performance and a fun one to watch, as Loyd pitched with confidence and had a competitive demeanor on the bump.
