Texas Twelve Takes South Spring WS

CYPRESS, Texas -- Texas Twelve 14U Black finished off a dominant tournament by beating the Banditos 14U by a score of 11-2 to win the Perfect Game South Spring World Series on Sunday.

Six players had at least one RBI for Texas Twelve 14U Black: Jack Paris (3), Blaine Bullard (1), Ryan Bevington (2), Nathan Mutchler (3), Jack McKernan (1), Cooper Chambers (1). Jack Paris went 3-for-3 in the game, playing first base and hitting out of the eight-hole. As a team, Texas Twelve drew 12 walks at the plate and took advantage with runners in scoring position to jump on the Banditos early and often, scoring four in the first, tacking on another in the third, and a crooked six-spot in the fourth.

On the pitching side, Blaine Bullard was handed the ball to start the game and earned the win for Texas Twelve 14U Black, allowing five hits and two walks and keeping the Banditos hitters quiet as his lineup did damage for him, striking out a batter in 1 2/3 innings. Bullard worked consistently in the 74-76 mph range and complemented his fastball with a 64 mph curveball. Cooper Chambers pitched in relief for Texas Twelve 14U Black and was outstanding, allowing just one hit and zero walks, striking out five batters in 3 1/3 innings to close out the championship contest. Chambers worked consistently in the 74-78 mph range and complemented his fastball with a 64 mph curveball.

Justin Michaelis won the tournament MVP award for his two-way efforts this weekend, hitting .636 on the weekend with an OPS of 1.915, while also throwing 5 1/3 innings of no-run ball, striking out eight. Dane Perry took home the MVPitcher award after tossing a pair of scoreless outings, spanning 5 1/3 total innings, with 10 strikeouts and just three walks, allowing just three hits.
