Fall Battle of the Southeast Scout Notes

David Bell (2022, Evans, Ga.) is a 6-foot-1, 194 pound, athletic, and strongly built catcher and corner infielder from Greenbrier High School. A junior this fall, Bell, took the mound Friday night at Brook Run, to kick off the weekend for his club, Complete Game 2022, and did not disappoint as his start lasted through four complete. When Bell would exit the game, he had a stat line that showcased six punchouts over his four-inning outing, to one walk, and a handful of hits but no damage done. Bell displayed pitchability throughout his start as he continually showcased his ability to throw his three pitch mix of a fastball, curveball and change up for strikes. In fact, Bell would pepper the strike zone to a seventy-seven percent clip on the night. To further dive into Bell’s repertoire, he mixed a fastball in the mid-80s with run, a curveball with proper shape in the upper-60s, and a changeup with sell in the low-70s. Bell pitches with evident confidence on the mound, and takes that mindset everywhere asked of him on the field, as he also hit third in the lineup for his club as well. Bell got his weekend off to a nice start at the plate on Friday going 1-for-3 in the first game with a run scored. David would keep his bat working in his club’s second game this weekend as well and would end up with a .400 average through the rain shortened two-game slate. A highly ranked catcher in the state, Bell is raking in 2020, as he has his average up to .526.

Bell’s teammate, and Complete Game 2022’s utility ballplayer, Dane Dykstra (2022, Augusta, Ga.) took the mound for the aforementioned Bell in the fifth inning on Friday night at Brook Run and was very impressive in his own right, allowing one hit, punching out three, and earning the save. Needing only forty-two pitches to complete the outing, Dykstra’s repertoire of a fastball in the mid-70s and a curveball in the mid-60s, varied just enough to keep hitters off balance and garner a lot of swing and miss. Similarly to Bell, Dykstra helped himself with the bat, and went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk on Friday night in the winning effort. The unranked, 5-foot-10, 135 pound right-handed pitcher and utility player had a solid weekend overall, knocking in a rbi in both of Complete Game 2022’s weekend games, as well as recording a strikeout per inning on the mound. Dykstra is a junior this fall at Lakeside High School.
