Deep South Invitational Scout Notes

Galvin Sims JR (2022 Memphis, TN) got off to a hot start today at the plate tallying three hits driving them all over the ball park. The 6-foot, 190 pounder hammered two of his hits to the left side for singles then mixed in a line drive up the middle for another single to drive in a run. He is very aggressive towards the fastball looking to attack it when in the zone. Galvin is a very strong athletic player who will continue to add strength as he matures. Defensively he is very smooth at shortstop as he made a few good plays towards the hole and throws accurately across the diamond.

Uncommitted Dexter Benoit (2023 Fayetteville, GA) has continued to find barrels this fall so far. He absolutely put on a show at the plate for 5 Star West Gold this morning. Dexter absolutely smashed an RBI triple off the leftfield wall as well as driving a two RBI single over the SS's head. The right-hander had a rather simple swing with great rhythm at the plate. He has plus bat speed with a very loose swing. There is some present strength there in the box as there is still plenty more to be added. Dexter is a very athletic player with great actions in the outfield as well. He should be an interesting follow throughout HS.



Branton Stringer (2023 Hartselle, AL) had a very solid outing on the mound in game one for the WOW Factor 2023 Scout Team. Branton went 4 innings giving up 4 hits and striking out 2. Stringer had a very steady mix with a tailing fastball with a sharp 12-6 breaking ball with very late life. His breaking ball was his go-to-pitch as he was able to command it in any count. The right- handed pitcher has a tall, long lengthy build at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds with a very smooth delivery. He repeats his movements well from pitch to pitch and works a fast pace when he toes the rubber. He topped at 83 mph. Offensively Stringer contributed as well as he smashed a triple to the right field wall.

Jabed Morales (2023 Orocovis, PR) was very impressive on the mound today as he got his team off to a great start. Jabed went two innings, striking out two and giving up one hit. Jabed was very efficient as he only threw 30 pitches with a 65% strike percentage. The Puerto Rican native has a long slender build with plenty of strength to be added. He has very simple and repeatable mechanics with a high 3/4's arm slot. His fastball had some arm side run on it as he was able to command it to both sides of the plate. Morales showed feel for a 11-5 curveball which he threw at different speeds and different locations. Jabed will continue to improve as he adds strength.

Closing the game for Yanase Baseball Jarrette Bonet (2023 Manati, PR) pitched a perfect 7th inning. It only took Bonet 12 pitches to get through the 7th as he struck out the side. Bonet was dominant in his outing as he was able to command the fastball to both sides of the plate. He has a solid sturdy build with some present strength and athleticism. Jarrette has a clean, loose arm action with good arm speed. Jarrette has some deception in his delivery and hides the ball well until release. He is a very projectable arm and should be a late inning guy at the next level. Bonet was up to 87 mph.

Southpaw Griffin Graves (2023 Jackson, TN) was tremendous in his start today for WOW Factor 2023 scout team going a complete game shutout. Griffin worked a three pitch mix the entire game showing great command of each pitch. He gave up 1 hit in his outing while striking out 10. Griffin was able to command his mid-80s fastball wherever he wanted and got plenty of swing and misses on it due to his plus arm side run. Griffin flashed a 1 to 5 breaking ball with sharp late life to get the hitters off balance as well. He did a great job of working fast and getting ahead of the opposing hitters. Graves has a very lean athletic frame with some more room to grow physically. He will continue to add strength as he progresses through HS. He is one of the top uncommitted arms in his class and should make some noise in the future.

Bo Bachtel (2024 Gardendale, AL) took the mound for CABA Aces 15U and ended up going the distance for them. Bo didn’t give up a hit and ended up striking out 9 in his dominance. The right-hander struggled with command early, giving up five walks in the first few innings then he settled down and found the zone. His go to off-speed pitch was a 11-5 breaking ball which he was able to command in any count during his outing. Bachtel sat high-70s his whole outing topping out at 80 mph. He is a very athletic player with some strength that still needs to be added. Offensively Bo contributed as well as he barreled up a few balls to drive in a run.

Uncommitted right-hander Blake Lobell (2022 Holden, LA) pitched WOW Factor to a championship berth. Blake went six innings,  gave up two runs and struck out three. Blake worked a two pitch mix as he flashed good feel for a 12-6 breaking ball. Lobell's command of the fastball was the thing that stuck out the most as he worked a 76% strike percentage his entire outing. At times it looked like Blake was effortless when throwing the fastball. The Louisiana native has a prototypical pitchers stature at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds; he has a very long lengthy build. Lobell works a straight over the top arm slot with a good downward plane on his release. He was sitting 84-86  mph his entire outing topping out at 87 Mph.

Trevor Booton (2023 Lagrange GA) pitched his team to a championship on Sunday evening. Booton came clutch when his team needed him the most on the mound. The right-hander went 6 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 6. He was in control mostly the whole game as he was able to pitch through some jams and really limit the damage. Booton flashed a curveball with some depth to keep the hitters off-balance. With a tall lanky  build he is a very projectable pitcher and should add strength as he continues to mature. Trevor has a really loose arm with a high 3/4 arm slot. His fastball sat 84-86 mph topping at 87 mph. At the plate he got it done as well as he smashed a few balls to the left side for base hits.
