WWBA Freshmen WC Scout Notes: Day 1

Theodore Gillen (2024, Austin, Texas) is pretty special talent as a left-handed hitting shortstop from the Lonestar State, and his travel team Lonestar National 2024. Gillen has outstanding physicality already at 6-foot-2, 184 pounds. He moves so well for his size as an athletic shortstop who can pick it, throw from multiple arm angles and on the run, and gets down the line quickly with all kinds of disruption on the base paths. Gillen knocked a single through the pull side in his first at-bat, followed that up with a walk in his second at-bat where he immediately stole second and third then advanced home on a wild pitch. Gillen did all this in a 2-0 game to cut his team’s deficit in half. It really sparked the offense as Lonestar National came back and scored six unanswered runs to win 6-2. Gillen smoked a ball in his final at-bat that was hit right on the barrel and right at the center-fielder. The swing is a level one with direct and quick hands and strength already showing at impact. There is power potential there and the ability to spray the ball from gap to gap. Gillen is a very talented prospect out of Austin, Texas and should certainly be on the radar of college coaches across the nation.
