Fall National Championship Scout Notes: Day 1

Day two of the PG Fall National Championship presented by G-Form began with a fantastic pitching matchup between two righties that are committed to college rivals in the Pacific Northwest.

Oregon commit Ryan Featherston (2023, Bakersfield, Calif.) and Oregon State commit Isaac Hill (2022, Grants Pass, Oreg.) battled in an incredibly tight ball game that finished as a 5-5 tie due to time limit.

Featherston pitched a solid game for Meta Prime 2023 going four full innings while fanning six and allowing three. Featherston’s overall pitchability and stuff are already extremely mature for his class and stand to only improve with his athletic build. He has a longer arm action that reaches down and back, then fires through to a high three-quarters to three-quarters slot. After separating, he works down the hill with a lower front side and generates a pretty easy 84-87 mph. When needed, Featherston has 90 mph in the tank as he hit it a couple of times in his outing; however, it’s still pretty high effort to get the velocity to that marker. It’s obvious that the velocity will continue to be there for Featherston as he continues to develop, so truly, his success and promise at the next level will come down to his already next level ready changeup. With a fantastic mimicking arm action and plus fade and sink to the plate, the off-speed pitch showcases a ton of projection and has fantastic deception even with him turning it over at the window. Coach Wasikowski is going to have a tough time getting Featherston to campus as he still has three more seasons of high school baseball to develop, and he has the potential to be one of the most intriguing pitchers in the country come his senior year in 2023.
