Battle for the Midwest Scout Notes: Day 1

Prospect Meadows Scout Notes: July 24 | July 25 & 26 | July 27

The inaugural PG Battle for the Midwest kicked off at Prospect Meadows on Tuesday, as 16 of the best teams in the Midwest took center stage to battle it out in double-elimination action. Day one featured big-time offensive performances and high-level arms galore, so let’s take a look at some of the standouts.




Notre Dame commit Zach Kempe (2021, St. Charles, Ill.) put together a really strong start for the Pro Player Canes 2021 group, allowing one run over five innings of work and striking out six. Kempe has a lively fastball, sitting 86-90 mph for a majority of the outing and running it up to 91 mph on occasions. Kempe was able to command the fastball and generate soft contact with it throughout the afternoon, but the righthander was also able to mix in a good breaking ball in the mid 70's when necessary and land for quality strikes.
