17U WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5

Alabama commit, James Nathan Shelton (2021 Tuscaloosa, Al) entered from the bullpen for the East Coast Sox and flashed big time upside. The lefthanded arm sports a lean build with a high waist, proving to be projectable. He utilizes a clean operation with a smooth operation as the ball jumps out of his hand. The fastball was up to 91 mph early as he was able to spot up to both sides of the dish. Most impressively, he held his velocity the entire outing and was bumping 90’s late in the day. He mixed in a changeup every so often and he was able to stay in the same arm slot and tunnel it well. The slider was his best off-speed pitch as he showed total confidence in the pitch. Shelton was able to get guys to chase it out of the zone and was comfortable throwing it to the back foot of righthanded hitters. The athleticism stands out the most and he’s a guy who is going to throw very hard one day. On the other hand, he swung the bat with some intent today as he drove one deep into the right-center gap. He went 3 innings while punching out three and gave up five hits, a few of which were not loud contact.
