West Elite Championship Scout Notes: Days 1 & 2 | Days 3 & 4


Baseball wound down in the desert for the summer with the final days of the West Elite Championships. Trosky National 2022’s Justin Tsukada (2022, Aeia, Hawaii) had a nice summer overall and put his ability on display both at the plate as well as behind the dish. Tsukada’s high level of competitiveness along with an already strong baseball IQ for his class make him a very interesting player to watch moving forward. Behind the plate, Tsukada is active and aware with every pitch and has a great arm especially for his developing frame. He was timed at 1.87 seconds on a pop time to third base in the game. At the plate, his already solid bat speed will only continue to improve as he continues to grow. He has a heavy linear weight shift in the box with a higher leg kick trigger that he remains balanced through. Tsukada does a great job of staying tall on his backside in his stroke as he extends his hands through the zone with a flat barrel plane. The back half of his tournament was strong as he helped Trosky National reach the semifinal game before running into a tough San Diego Hustle squad.
