Stevie Emanuels, RHP, Washington
Emanuels matched up opposite Loyola Marymount’s Nick Frasso in a highly anticipated game between two big arm with considerable upside for the 2020 MLB Draft. Emanuels looks the part, standing at 6-foot-5, 210-pounds. His delivery is pretty athletic and repeatable with good tempo, working from the first base side of the rubber. From the beginning of the game he was trying to run his low-90s fastball in on the hands of righthanded hitters, showing both run and sink on the pitch. The fastball worked in the 90-93 range early with a spin rate around 2400.

Primary a two-pitch hurler, Emanuels’ slider is a legit weapon, a plus offering working in the 80-83 mph range with late, sharp action. In his 3 2/3 innings of work his fastball velocity dipped more into the 89-90 range and the slider settled in around 78 mph. The slider got a bit looser but still got swings-and-misses with the pitch. Emanuels lost his fastball command early and relied on his slider, which he threw more consistently in and around the glove, and at one point threw nine straight breaking balls. Emanuels ended up walking six LMU hitters but eight of the 11 outs he recorded came via strikeout.
