Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: TJ Collett, Kentucky
Kentucky slugger TJ Collett, now a senior, has enjoyed a productive collegiate career and he’s coming off one of his most productive weeks. As part of a 5-0 week for the Wildcats with games against Cincinnati, Murray State, Norfolk State and Oakland, Collett batted 10-for-22 (.455) with seven runs scored, 13 driven in, three doubles and three homers. Four of the five games were multi-hit games and he also had multi-RBI games in four of the five contests. Collett started the week with a two-home run performance against Cincinnati and finished with a four-RBI performance against Oakland. A PG All-American during the summer of 2015, Collett now has hit 26 home runs in 117 games, slashing .272/.362/.526 during that time. Kentucky improved to 10-6 with the five wins and out-scored their opponents 57-to-21.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Kyle Nicolas, Ball State
It was a hard-luck 1-0 loss for Ball State on Friday, although their ace, Kyle Nicolas, didn’t factor into the decision after delivering seven innings of one-hit baseball. Nicolas only walked one batter while retiring 17 of the 24 batters he faced via strikeout. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior entered the year as the 87th-ranked player for the 2020 MLB Draft as he regularly deals in the low-90s, peaking at 95 mph, while mixing in a hammer curveball to give him a legitimate 1-2 swing-and-miss punch. Nicolas has still yet to win a game this year despite having a 2.74 ERA over four starts, allowing just 15 hits and seven walks over 23 innings with 37 total punchouts and a paltry .188 batting average against.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Hunter Goodman, Memphis
If Western Illinois ever has to face Memphis catcher Hunter Goodman again it will be too soon. After a one-game tuneup against Central Arkansas in which Goodman went a relatively modest 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI, he went off over the weekend, hitting four total home runs and a grand slam in each of the Tigers’ three contests against the Leathernecks. He saved his best for last, going 4-for-6 on Sunday with 11 RBI, hitting a three-run double, a two-run single, a two-run double and a grand slam in a 23-8 win. Overall he hit 11-for-21 (.524) with two doubles, four homers, seven runs scored and 24 driven in as Memphis out-scored Western Illinois 55-16. Goodman entered the year as the 27th-ranked overall prospect for the 2021 MLB Draft.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Dane Acker, Oklahoma
After spending the 2019 season at JUCO power San Jac, Dane Acker hasn’t missed a beat so far with the ninth-ranked Sooners, delivering his most masterful performance to date. In a contest against LSU, and opposite a one-hit performance over eight innings by AJ Labas, Acker was just that much better, tossing a no-hitter in a 1-0 win to secure Oklahoma’s second win at the Shriners College Classic. He struck out 11 and walked only one during his time on the mound and so far this season he has proven to be the stingiest OU pitcher to hit, now allowing just seven base hits in 21 innings of work. Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Robert Moore, Arkansas
It was a week of firsts for Moore, who of course would be a senior in high school had he not graduated early to enroll at Arkansas at semester. The team’s second baseman hit his first collegiate double and his first home run while driving in his first run (with eight others) and stealing his first base. In three of Arkansas’ games as part of a four-game sweep over visiting Gonzaga, Moore gave the Hogs the initial lead with a run-scoring base hit. In the other game he provided the go-ahead RBI and later in that game provided insurance with a two-run shot. He also provided his usual nifty defense up the middle of the infield and overall went 8-for-12 (.667) with four runs scored, nine driven in, a double, a homer, two steals and four walks.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Bryce Jarvis, Duke
There was no shortage of big pitching performances during the second weekend of the 2020 college baseball season, however, no performance was more impressive than Bryce Jarvis’ perfect game in an 8-0 win over visiting Cornell. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior had everything working on Friday, needing just 94 pitches to record 27 outs, 15 of which were punchouts with only one three-ball count in the game. His fastball sat at 92-95 mph while mixing in his full four-pitch mix that includes a slider, curveball and changeup. The win was the third of four straight shutouts for the Blue Devils as part of a 4-0 week and the Pitcher of the Week honor is the second for Jarvis, who got the nod in Regional play a year ago with a win over West Virginia in Morgantown.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Nick Gonzales, New Mexico State
It doesn’t appear anything can slow Gonzales down. He led the nation in batting a year ago and he followed that up with a huge performance on the Cape, leading Cotuit to a summer championship that led to him being named PG’s Summer Collegiate Player of the Year. He entered 2020 as a no-doubt First Team Preseason College All-American and accounted for over half of his team’s runs in their opening four-game set against Texas Southern. In those four games he went 8-for-14 (.571) with a pair of doubles, four homers eight runs scored and 17 RBI. He also walked six times and was hit twice. Gonzales saved his biggest and best performance for last, blasting three home runs – a two-run shot, a three-run shot and a grand slam – on Sunday.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Hunter Wolfe, Dayton
It would be wise not to overlook Dayton this season, a team that has a few promising prospects whose tools translate well to the next level. Senior staff ace Hunter Wolfe is one of those prospects, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound lefthander who out-dueled Bryant ace Tyler Mattison to open the 2020 season last Friday with seven strong innings. He used an 84-88 mph fastball, changeup and curveball to keep the opposing hitters guessing, leading to 14 strikeouts while only allowing one run on a pair of hits and two walks. Wolfe led the A-10 in wins a year ago (9) and also paced the Dayton staff with his 3.70 ERA as he and the Flyers are off to a strong 3-1 start with wins two wins over Bryant and another over UNC Wilmington.
