Why they’re here: Roster stability. More so than any other team that was in consideration for the preseason No. 1 ranking, Louisville has the most roster stability from the 2019 season to 2020. Six of the team's nine everyday starters in the lineup return, none more impactful than now-sophomore third baseman Alex Binelas, whose second half surge a year ago was a big reason this team made it to Omaha. There's depth at nearly every position and plenty of postseason experience. Projected starters Reid Detmers, Bobby Miller and Luke Smith combined to throw 261 1/3 of the team's 622 innings (42 percent) in 2019.

Difference maker: Sensational southpaws. Although he does stand out the most of any player on the Louisville roster, staff ace Reid Detmers – armed with his signature big-breaking curveball – certainly does not stand alone when it comes to the number of impact lefthanded pitchers the team possesses. Michael Kirian, the team's projected closer, and Adam Elliott will be two of the most frequently called upon bullpen arms for this team, and Carter Lohman opens the year as the team's mid-week starter. There are four freshmen lefthanders on the roster, none more talented than prized recruit Michael Prosecky.

Fun fact: With 470 wins, Louisville had the most victories in the last decade. They played in the College World Series four times (2013, 2014, 2017, 2019) during that stretch and have gone a remarkable 109-40 in conference play since joining the ACC in 2015.
