California

Darren Baker is the Bears’ best draft prospect as a middle infielder with speed and he also has especially good pedigree. Sophomore righthander Sean Sullivan is coming off an excellent summer in the Cape Cod League and he should be a solid Pac-12 weekend starter. Two drafted freshmen who should make an immediate impact are two-player Aaron Roberts and lefthanded hitting first baseman Nathan Martorella. Ironically, both were taken by the Red Sox with Roberts going in the 15th round and Martorella going in the 30th.

Clemson

Clemson battled through an uncharacteristically choppy season in 2019 but there remains great talent on this roster. Shortstop was a big question mark this fall, but some permutation of Sam Hall and James Parker will make for an extremely athletic middle infield. Two high profile juniors who stood out were Sam Weatherly and Kier Meredith. Weatherly showed a 90-94 mph fastball and a plus breaking ball while Meredith could end up being a very good draft pick as a dynamic top-of-the-lineup player.

Monte Lee’s freshman class should make a big impact. Outfielder Dylan Brewer looks like an immediate contributor and righthander Mack Anglin has shown 92-95 mph with his fastball and a breaking ball spin rate of 3,000 rpm. Catcher Jonathan French was PG’s No. 56-ranked high school player in the class of 2019 and he could be among the ACC’s best freshmen in 2020. The wildcard is redshirt freshman Carter Raffield who is 10 months out from Tommy John surgery but has been up to 96 mph in his bullpens.

Ryan Gallagher of UC Santa Barbara threw a complete game shutout and leads the Gauchos staff into the Top-25 while Tennessee's Christian Moore went 9-for-15 with 4 home runs and 9 RBI.

Well, here we go folks, we have one month left in the regular season and things continue to get more unpredictable on the national landscape. We are seeing some new clubs making statements out west and non-Power 5s on the east coast continuing to jockey for post-season host consideration.
