GC Monarchs are 10u Champs

PG Super25 Staff
After a week of undefeated baseball, the Gulf Coast Monarchs came out on top as the 2017 10u Super25 National Champs.  The Monarchs, a local team based out of Southwest Florida, repeat as champions for this age group, as their 10u squad took home the title last year.  Meeting them in the championship game was Academy Select-Hebel, also unbeaten entering Friday's game.

Monarchs head coach Aaron Lawson could not be more proud of this team, and had this to say.  "It was an unbelievable week for the team.  We had high expectations after last years title and the boys did everything I asked of them this week.  We played outstanding defense all week and our pitching was solid from all 10 kids that took the mound.  We had some big hits and the offensive execution was outstanding all week!  It was a total team effort and I can't be more proud of each and every kid.  We push them about as hard as you can and time after time these kids respond.  This team is the definition of heart, they give me everything they have and they deserve this title!"

Tournament MVP  Chris McFoley paced the Monarchs this week with a .500 batting average and 3 home runs, including one in the championship.  He also won the Fastest Man Competition during the event's opening ceremonies.  Owen Rardin led the team with 9 hits, which was good for second highest in the entire tournament.    Jacob Estrada and Cole Ingole also ended the tournament with .500 batting averages.  As the good as the Monarchs were at the plate, they were equally impressive in the field and on the mound.  MVPitcher of the week, Landon Ide, finished with a 2-0 record, 9 strikeouts, and 0 earned runs allowed for the week.  Johnny King threw a gem in the championship game, earning the win and sealing the deal for Gulf Coast.

Nothing should be taken away from the performance all week from Academy Select, who ended the tournament with a 5-1 record.  Grady Emerson posted a ridiculous stat line both offensively and defensively, piling up 9 hits, 5 extra base hits, 7 RBI, 5 stolen bases, and an On Base Percentage of .611.   Chandler Hart was also a huge contributor batting .467 with 10 RBI.  On the mound, Thomas McHugh led the way for Academy Select, appearing in 3 games while picking up 2 wins.

Perfect Game would like to send a big congratulations to both teams on what they accomplished during the tournament.
