Brendan Murphy is a 2017 LHP with a 6-4 200 lb. frame from Mundelein, IL who attends Mundelein Cons. HS. Long and lean athletic build, projects very well physically. 3/4's arm slot with nice angle to the plate, easy low effort delivery, repeats his mechanics well. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, commands his fastball well to both sides of the plate, mostly straight with occasional arm side running action. Change up is his best pitch, has nice arm speed and deception with big fading action at the plate. Slider has consistent spin with good feel for location and some tilt, not a power breaking ball but effective when used with other pitches. Showed the ability to sequence his pitches and work ahead in counts and to his strengths. Will be interesting to see what his velocity is next spring. Good student, verbal commitment to Arizona State.
